A boat-in outfitter is reached in two moves: you drive to a landing, then cross the water. In this directory those operators usually carry two access modes in order — road, then boat — because that is literally the sequence of the trip.
The crossing is nearly always run by the outfitter, on departure times they set. Your vehicle stays at the landing for the week, gear moves in loads rather than all at once, and wind can delay a boat the same way weather delays a plane. What you get in return is a shoreline with no road to it, which does most of the work of keeping other people off the water — the access is effectively restricted by geography, with nobody having to police it.
Treat it as the middle option: quieter and harder to reach than a camp at the end of a road, far simpler and cheaper than one that needs a floatplane. For a lot of trips it is the most distance you can buy without adding a charter to the bill.

- Ask whether the crossing is included, how many loads it covers, and what you can bring across.
- Confirm where your vehicle sits for the week and whether the landing has secure parking.
- Assume wind can postpone a run; keep slack in the plan, especially on the way out.
