Dumoine Lake Cottages is a Témiscamingue outfitter running since 1991, set on the shores of Dumoine Lake deep in the forest of northwestern Quebec. The territory carries exclusive rights: access is limited and governed by a management plan filed every year, which keeps fishing and hunting pressure low and the lake quiet. Six remote cabins line the water, sleeping 8 to 14 each, fully equipped and off-grid: hot and cold running water, shower and toilet, propane lights, stove and refrigerators, a wood stove for cool nights, an outdoor BBQ, a screened-in porch and a kitchen stocked with dishes, pots, pans and utensils — all you bring is a sleeping bag, your food and your gear. It is first and foremost a fishing destination: Dumoine Lake holds walleye in all three of its forms, blue, yellow and black, along with northern pike, and because the territory carries exclusive rights, no length limit applies to pike. 14-foot aluminum boats with 4-stroke 15 hp Yamaha outboards are available to rent, gas included. In the fall the territory is divided into private sections for moose hunting, one party per section; in the spring, black bear is hunted from stands over baited sites. Ruffed grouse and waterfowl — black duck and mallard — round out the season. Between outings there is the sunrise on the water, wildlife all around and the complete quiet of a lake almost nobody else passes through.
