La Seigneurie du Triton

About
Founded in 1893 as the Triton Fish and Game Club by railway engineer Alexander Luders Light, La Seigneurie du Triton is a historic outfitter in the Haute-Mauricie near Lac-Édouard that in its golden age welcomed illustrious guests including Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Truman, members of the Rockefeller and Molson families, and Winston Churchill. The territory spans roughly 45 to 50 km² with 12 lakes and a river, prized for more than 130 years for brook-trout fishing (Triton-lineage speckled trout), on light tackle as well as the fly, most productive in May and June. It offers a range of all-inclusive inn fishing packages (table d'hôte meals, gourmet dinners, shore-lunch, guides on the territory and a smokehouse) alongside self-catering cabin stays (European plan), fly-fishing initiation packages, and family and getaway stays with a beach, canoe and kayak. In the fall the territory also opens to small-game hunting (ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, hare, woodcock), black bear and moose, with only a small number of hunters admitted each year. The site, nestled in the heart of a biodiversity reserve, is reachable only by water, making it a refuge of calm and silence.
