About

Pourvoirie de la Haute Saint-Jean offers premium Atlantic-salmon fishing on the Saint-Jean river, in the heart of the Côte-Nord. Rising on the Laurentian plateau at the south-western edge of Labrador, the river runs 240 km and empties into the Gulf of St. Lawrence near the village of Rivière-Saint-Jean. Each season up to 6,000 salmon (4 to 20 kg) run the river. The territory has 3 exclusive fishing sectors and 55 generous pools, across more than 30 km of the Saint-Jean river and 14 km of the Rivière des Saumons; fishing — from a 26-foot canoe or by wading, with a guide — runs from early June to mid-August. Catch-and-release is encouraged (up to 3 releases a day). The pavilions are reached by motorized canoe from the river mouth: Pavillon Saint-Jean is about 13 km (1 h 15 by canoe) away with 14 marked pools, while Pavillon des Chutes, the furthest upstream, sits 30 km out (about 2 h 30 by canoe) and offers first-class lodging in double rooms with private bathrooms, a lounge with fireplace and a dining room. Each pavilion sleeps up to 10 guests. A chef and his team serve three meals a day on the American plan, and Wi-Fi and phone service keep you connected.
