Pourvoirie La Pointe du Phénix sits on a secluded peninsula point on big Lac Kipawa, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (zone 13), more than 20 km from the nearest outfitter and reachable by water only — a 3.5 km pontoon transfer of about 15 minutes, included in the package. Facing due south, the site looks out on a lake that stretches nearly 100 km and counts more than 1,600 km of rocky shoreline lined with tall pines; sheltered by hundreds of islands and bays, it is a true labyrinth, and boating stays safe because the shore is never far away. 'Kipawa' comes from Algonquin and means 'it is closed' or 'no way out'. The sought-after species are walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass; lake trout, restocked in recent years by the wildlife ministry, is a species to watch. Four kilometres from camp lie the mouth of the Kipawa River and a walleye spawning ground. Lodging is in four waterfront cabins: two sleeping 2 to 4 people, one sleeping 2 and one that holds up to 8. Each has a wood stove with firewood supplied, a full bathroom (toilet, shower, hot water), a fully equipped kitchen with propane cooktop and fridge, a sofa, a rocking chair, a BBQ and a picnic table. The outfitter runs 100% on solar power and provides unlimited WiFi plus a dock outlet to recharge electric motors. On site: an unsupervised beach, a walking trail, a trampoline, a basketball hoop, horseshoes and bean-bag toss. Formerly the 'Mackenzie Camp', the outfitter had been abandoned for more than ten years when Yanick and Sylvie bought it in the summer of 2017 and set about renovating the cabins and the docks.
