About

Nibiischii — "Land of Waters, where the great natural waters of the North are born" — manages two wildlife reserves at the heart of Eeyou Istchee James Bay: the Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi wildlife reserve and the Assinica wildlife reserve. Together these territories cover more than 24,000 km² of thousands of lakes and spectacular rivers, including the vast Lac Mistassini and Lac Waconichi. Fishing is king here: four marquee species — walleye, northern pike, brook trout and lake trout — await your line, with certain lakes allocated by lottery draw. You can stay in a cozy rustic log chalet or a floating chalet on Lac Waconichi, in a prospector camp (MÛS, Nichikw) or a CoolBox at Lac Albanel and Baie Pénicouane, or go serviced camping, rustic camping and canoe-camping across the whole territory, all the way to remote Lac Robineau and Lac Troilus at Square Tail Lodge. Managed by the Corporation Nibiischii of Mistissini, this Cree-tourism territory offers an authentic northern experience of water, rock and wide-open wilderness.
