About

Domaine de l'Île au Canot is a private resort set on a 52.5-hectare island (2 km long by 600 m wide) in the heart of the Isle-aux-Grues archipelago, on the St. Lawrence River, reachable only by boat from the Montmagny wharf. The island, whose recorded history goes back to its first known owner in 1662, is run today by the Lachance family and friends passionate about waterfowl hunting. It is one of the best private estates in the world for snow-goose hunting: one of the 21 islands of the migratory-bird sanctuary, its south-east tidal flats are a major feeding ground for migrating snow geese. You can also hunt duck (black duck, mallard, pintail) from a yacht, and pheasant as a guided complementary activity with a dog. Lodging is in a luxurious country-style main house that sleeps up to 10 people (5 double-occupancy bedrooms, kitchen renovated in 2017, summer pavilion added in 2016), bookable by the week, mid-week or for a weekend. More than 6 km of maintained trails, sandbars, cruises, birdwatching, clay-pigeon shooting and excursions to Grosse-Île round out the offering. The estate draws more than 80% of its power from a wind turbine and solar panels.
