About

Mike's Driftwood Outfitters is a family-run outfitter in northwestern Quebec's Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, set on Lake and River Dasserat (3rd lake – Kanasuta) in zone 13. The site brings together a main lodge and seven private cottages sleeping up to 50 guests, in parties of 2 to 8, all powered by a solar energy system, with indoor toilet and shower, hot water, propane stove and wood stove. The territory — hundreds of square kilometres of public and leased land — is known for spring black bear hunting over baited sites (May 15 to June 30, about 85 active baits, bears averaging 175-200 lbs with a chance at 300-400 lbs), moose hunting during the rut (archery in late September, rifle in October), wolf, coyote and fox hunting over bait from November through March, and small-game hunting — ruffed grouse and hare — in September and October. On the water, the network of lakes and rivers stretches more than 100 km with depths to 50 feet: walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, whitefish and ling, from the third week of May to mid-October; it is not unusual to land a 4 lb bass, a 20-inch walleye or a 40-inch pike. Boats and motors rent on site, and a guided trophy catch-and-release outing runs to a remote lake. Around 200 miles of well-maintained trails await ATV riders. On site: sauna, two gazebos with propane barbecues, canoes, kayak and pedal boat, a camp fire area, a fish cleaning station, freezers, field-dressing service and game export documents. Access : By road · By boat

Access by road (truck and ATV on a gravel road) or by boat. Nearest service town: Rouyn-Noranda (YUY airport, 15 km from downtown; car rental available on arrival). From Rouyn-Noranda: follow Route 117 North (Larivière street, then Avenue du Lac along Lake Osisko), turn left onto Gamble Est street at the 8th light, continue onto Gamble Ouest and through the railway underpass at the 12th light; the street becomes Rideau Blvd (still 117 North). Pass through Évain and Arntfield; a few minutes after Arntfield, turn right at the 'Y' intersection onto 117 North (Mont-Chaudron Route) — do NOT continue straight on the 101. Continue about 22 km on 117 North to the 'Labyrinth Resources' sign on the right and take that gravel road (chemin du Lac Labyrinthe). Drive about 19 km on the main gravel road without taking any of the smaller side roads; two 'Y' intersections are marked with 'Mike's Outfitter' signs: at the first (6.9 km from the 117), keep right onto Lac Labyrinthe road; continue 8.6 km and keep right at the second; after about 0.7 km, turn right at the 'Mike's Outfitter' sign and drive 3 km. From Ontario: via Highway 11 North, take 624 North toward Larder Lake (the last gas before the gravel road), then 66 East to the village of Kearns; just past Kearns and before the big hill, take the 'Cheminis Road' gravel road on the left and drive about 20 km to the same 'Y' intersections (the first is 10.7 km from the highway). Alternative: from New Liskeard, Route 65 to Notre-Dame-du-Nord, then Principale St N / QC-101 N for about 50 km, and left at the 'Y' intersection onto 117 North (Mont-Chaudron Route), before Arntfield.
