Pyramid Mountain Camp

On the George River in Nunavik, Pyramid Mountain Camp has welcomed anglers at the foot of Pyramid Mountain since 1964. The May family, who are Inuit, have been on the George since the 1950s and still run the camp themselves. They hold an exclusive lease on 35 miles of river with more than 40 salmon pools and beds, which you fish without sharing them with anyone else. Atlantic salmon run from early August to mid-September; brook trout, landlocked Arctic char and lake trout are caught all summer long. Spin and fly fishing are allowed until August 15, fly fishing only after that, and catch-and-release is actively encouraged. The camp is a cluster of log cabins built on site from local white spruce, heated by wood stoves and lit by Coleman lamps, each sleeping 2 to 3 people, with a main lodge, a dining room, an on-site chef and home-cooked meals, hot-shower cabins and generator power. An experienced guide and a large aluminium boat with an outboard for every two anglers, moored a few steps from the cabins. Just six anglers a week, and a full week can be blocked for a party of six. The 8-day, 7-night stay includes the charter flights from Kuujjuaq.
