About

Pourvoirie Aventure Lac Goéland sits in the heart of the 'nordic state' in Nord-du-Québec, in the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James region, near Matagami. Lac Goéland is 36 km long and 275 km² of natural water lined with white-sand beaches and dotted with more than 30 islands — a dream playground for seasoned anglers. Walleye is the specialty here, with success on every outing, followed by hard-fighting northern pike known for some very big surprises; lake sturgeon and yellow perch are caught too. In spring the outfitter offers an exclusive black-bear hunt (10 spots a year), available only as an add-on to a fishing package. Lodging is in six comfortable cabins (sleeping 4 to 8), with indoor toilet, propane BBQ and a shower at the shared sanitary block. Reachable by road — 23 km of gravel past km 48 of the Billy Diamond (Radisson) road. On-site rental of 18.5-foot boats (50 hp motor). Founded in the 1970s and once accessible only by floatplane, the outfitter has been run since 2012 by Sylvain, an experienced fishing guide, in partnership with the Cree community of Waswanipi.
