Founded in 1997, la Pourvoirie du Montagnard sets you up on réservoir Gouin, in the beautiful sandy bay of Lac Chapman, for a holiday on the water. Six 4-star-rated houseboats, 52 feet by 24, become your floating home: open-plan kitchen and living room, sleeping for eleven, a full bathroom with a hot-water shower, wide front and rear patios, a BBQ and a fish-cleaning table, a solar fridge, a freezer, GPS, marine charts and a radio-telephone. The dock holds four of them at a time and the boats are adapted for guests with reduced mobility. Two fully equipped cottages sleeping up to six round out the offering, including a large private cottage across the lake. Walleye and northern pike fishing is the main event here, and the rate includes one boat with motor per two adults. Luc Dubois and Diane Bourbonnais welcome you from the May opening to the September closing.

Location & access

Access : By road

Road access, via the village of Parent (Haute-Mauricie). From Route 117 North: continue about 12 km past the village of Lac-Saguay, turn right toward Chute-Saint-Philippe, follow the signs for Mont-Saint-Michel, then for Parent. Parent can also be reached from La Tuque via Route 25 (the new road), or from Mont-Saint-Michel via QC-309 North. From Parent: at the convenience store/gas station, turn left at the stop and follow the road to Clova; at km 30, turn right; at km 38, turn right onto the road to Pourvoirie du Montagnard and Oasis du Gouin, then reset your odometer to zero; at km 25.5 the road forks — turn left onto the Pourvoirie du Montagnard road and follow the signs to the outfitter. This last stretch is on forest roads: the operator recommends buying or renting a CB radio to announce yourself. The operator also stresses NOT to rely on Google Maps or a GPS (48°20'22" N, 74°40'21" W), which risks adding several kilometres to the trip. The outfitter sits in the Lac Chapman bay, on réservoir Gouin.
