Domaine du Lac Saint-Pierre, in Louiseville in the Mauricie region, sits on an exceptional site at the heart of the Lac Saint-Pierre World Biosphere Reserve — an archipelago of marsh and flooded forest nicknamed 'Les Bayous du Nord' (the Northern Bayous). People come for guided fishing on the lake (walleye, sturgeon), winter ice fishing from a heated hut, blind duck hunting from prepared hides along the shore (a major stop on the migratory flyway, a Ramsar site) and white-tailed deer hunting. On the gentler side: an amphibious-boat safari through the bayou, motorboat rental, canoe, kayak and pedal boat.
