On the shore of Lac-à-l'Eau-Claire in Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, in the Mauricie region, the Auberge du Lac-à-l'Eau-Claire combines the comfort of a full-service hotel with the feel of an outfitting lodge. The site, reserved for guests of the property, opens onto a natural lake with 42 kilometres of shoreline plus a dozen other lakes, all reachable by car. Fishing is the headline act: brook trout, rainbow trout and lake trout (touladi) — some specimens topping 20 pounds — share the water with smallmouth bass, and heavy annual stocking makes the property one of Quebec's leading fishing destinations. Fishing rights, motorized boats and gear are rented at the on-site rental centre. Lodging runs to 151 rooms and units: rooms and suites in the inn and the pavilions, 2- and 5-bedroom condos, and 4- and 5-bedroom chalets sleeping up to 12, all with a private bathroom per bedroom, a wood fireplace, and a full kitchen in the chalets and condos. The dining room, with its lake view and three fireplaces, serves a gastronomic table d'hôte whose signature is lake trout prepared a dozen different ways. The Espace Santé wellness centre rounds out the stay with a semi-Olympic pool, saunas, Nordic baths and five massage-therapy rooms. In summer there is canoeing, kayaking, pedal boating, cycling, tennis, the beach and quad riding; in winter, snowmobiling straight from the trails, dog sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, skating and tube sliding. Built in 1993, the inn began in the 1980s as an anglers' outfitting camp.

Access : By road

Road access all the way to the site, in the Mauricie region. GPS coordinates: 46.5440443, -73.0895194. The village of Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, where the nearest grocery store is, is about a 15-minute drive away; a convenience store is available on site. The inn is a snowmobile relay close to the trails, with the option of parking your snowmobile in the rental centre's heated garage subject to space. Four Level 2 (J1772) EV charging stations are available to guests at $2.00 per hour. Free outdoor parking. Note for anglers arriving with a boat: because of the risk of spreading cyanobacteria, using your own boats and gas motors on the property's lakes is prohibited (no exceptions) — boats are rented on site.
