About

On the shores of Lac Portage and Lac Champagne, in the Appalachians of the Chaudière-Appalaches region at St-Théophile, Pourvoirie du Lac Portage occupies a rustic estate built by the Breakey family in the early 1900s and run as a private hunting and fishing club from 1920 on. The 22 km² forested territory, which borders the Canada-US line, is now owned by the Nature Conservancy, which protects it in perpetuity, while the outfitter has been operated by Gestizone since 2016. Fishing takes place on four lakes (Portage, 421 ha; Champagne, 63 ha; Castors, 15 ha; Coburn, 10 ha) for brook trout and rainbow trout, with catch limits stricter than provincial regulations and a season running from May 10 to October 30. Hunting, governed by rigorous wildlife management (QDM deer management; moose harvest limited to males), is enjoyed almost exclusively alongside an experienced guide. Lodging, on the European plan (or occasionally the American plan at the Auberge), is in a century-old lakeside inn and in five fully equipped rustic cabins hosting groups of two to twelve. All lodging stays include fishing rights and boat access, and the estate also offers VIP days, special events and outdoor activities (swimming, kayaking, pontoon, hiking trail).
