Arctic Adventures is an Inuit-owned outfitter that has been welcoming anglers to Nunavik, Arctic Quebec, since 1969. It operates two fly-in fishing camps above the treeline. The Payne River camp, on the 60th parallel about forty kilometres upriver from the village of Kangirsuk, opens onto one of the finest Arctic char fisheries in North America: saltwater fishing aboard seven-metre freighter canoes and wading along the banks laid bare by the great Ungava Bay tides. The Tunulik II camp, perched on a granite bluff overlooking the Lagrevé River 2.4 km inland from Ungava Bay, runs only four weeks a year at the peak of the migration: six or seven anglers have roughly 16 km of river to themselves for native brook trout, sea-run trout and, late in the season, Arctic char. Packages are all-inclusive out of Montreal — commercial flight to Kuujjuaq, chartered Twin-Otter to camp, heated cabins with hot showers, three home-cooked meals a day including the shore lunch prepared by the guides, an Inuit guide and motorized freighter canoe for every three anglers, fishing permits and preparation of your catch for the trip home. The camps run a live-release policy to protect the fishery.
