About

The Payne River Fishing Camp is a remote Arctic fishing camp, Inuit-owned and operated since 1969, set above the treeline in Nunavik. Located on the 60th parallel, about 40 km upriver from the village of Kangirsuk on the Payne River — one of the main rivers flowing into Ungava Bay — it sits minutes from some of the best Arctic char fishing in North America. The all-inclusive 6-day package offers five full days of fishing, with a guide, motorized freighter canoe and permits, amid breathtaking Arctic scenery and abundant wildlife. Lodging is in heated cabins, with home-cooked meals, hot showers and satellite communications. The site is reached by air: a chartered Twin-Otter lands on a 335 m (1,100 ft) airstrip just behind the camp, after flights from Montreal to Kuujjuaq and Kuujjuaq to camp. Note: the camp is closed for renovations in 2025.

The homepage states 'THE PAYNE RIVER FISHING CAMP WILL BE CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS IN 2025'. The FAQ quotes $5,295 CAD BUT for the '2014, 6-night package' — a 2014 price, not re-published, kept here as a historical reference only, not as a current price. 30% deposit, final payment due May 1. Guests arrive via round-trip flights from Montreal to Kuujjuaq, then Kuujjuaq to camp aboard a Twin-Otter chartered specifically for anglers, which lands (on wheels) on a 335 m (1,100 ft) airstrip a short distance behind the camp. The camp sits on the 60th parallel along the Payne River, about 40 km upriver from the village of Kangirsuk (Nunavik).
