Safari Anticosti

Safari Anticosti is a private outfitter on Anticosti Island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, dedicated to white-tailed deer hunting. It operates a private territory of about 550 km² in the Rivière-aux-Saumons sector, on the east side of the island, where the deer — now a distinct sub-species recognized by Safari Club International — lives with no natural predator and very little hunting pressure, giving one of the highest deer densities per square kilometre in North America (two-deer limit per hunter). The island also holds 24 salmon rivers, where Atlantic salmon fly fishing is practised (June 24 to September 15) with a guaranteed maximum of eight rods on the water per day. Access is by direct chartered flights to the private, paved and lit Rivière-aux-Saumons airstrip (CTH7). Two formulas: Pavillon Safari, a five-star American-plan lodge with French cuisine and beverages included, and Chalet Relais on the European plan. The outfitter takes groups only (6 to 12 hunters depending on the lodging); no availability for smaller groups or solo travellers.
