Pourvoyeurs de la Rivière Delay

North of the 55th parallel, in the heart of Nunavik, the Delay River carries its clear waters down to the Koksoak River and Ungava Bay. Reachable only by seaplane or helicopter, the lodge offers the rare chance to catch four of Quebec's major fish species in a single river: Atlantic salmon, speckled trout, lake trout and northern pike. The average catch is two salmon a day, weighing 5 to 12 pounds, and 18-pound-plus fish are not uncommon. You can wade in or travel the river by freighter canoe, with one experienced guide for every two anglers, who then prepares and freezes your catch for the trip home. Lodging is in superior-quality cottages — three bedrooms, two full baths with showers, electric heating, a woodstove, living room and veranda — alongside a main camp given over to meals and a lounge. All meals are prepared and served on site by the kitchen staff, internet access is free in the main building, and the cottages run on generator power until 10 p.m. Owners since 1998, the Lachapelle family welcomes anglers to the tundra and boreal forest of Quebec's Great North.
