Pourvoirie le Rochu

In the Mauricie region, some forty kilometres north of La Tuque along Route 155, Pourvoirie Le Rochu unfolds across 70 square kilometres of wild paradise: an untamed oasis carved up by more than 25 lakes, threaded with trout streams and overlooked by game-rich mountains. The lakes, stocked or wild, teem with fish — 23 brook-trout lakes, 7 lakes holding northern pike and walleye — and their small size makes it easy to find the holes where fish take cover. The territory is known as one of the region's best for moose hunting, with no long portages or difficult routes; black bear and small game are hunted here too, by rifle as well as by bow. Lodging is in 16 cabins: 8 remote log cabins deep in the bush running on propane gas and solar power, and 8 cabins at the reception building on grid electricity, all with a shower, hot water and an indoor toilet. Between outings, about 30 kilometres of trails wind through the forest, while swimming in clear water, the floating slide, pedal boats, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, mountain biking, the sand beach, swings for the little ones and blueberry and raspberry picking keep the whole family busy.
