About

In the heart of Minganie, Les Enfants de Rolande sits in a corner of the country still in its wild state, on the shore of the vast Lac Costebelle. Alain Deraps and his wife Rolande built their first chalet here in 1994, and the place is now run by the family. The lake holds two species, Arctic char — the 'char', as anglers here call it — and brook trout, in native populations only: fishing of a quality protected by limited fly-in access. You stay in two well-equipped chalets sleeping two to six on the European plan, or at the inn, which takes up to eight guests on the American plan with meals included. The season runs from late May to mid-September, and in August the sky lends itself to the northern lights.

Hunt
Good to know

No published rates. The outfitter advertises hunting alongside fishing in its own words ('Pourvoirie du Lac Costebelle invites you for hunting and fishing in the heart of Minganie'), but nowhere states the species or the packages. Québec's tourism registry declares firearm hunting for moose and ruffed grouse: those species are deliberately left out of the package targets until the outfitter advertises them itself. Details and rates on request.

Fishing
Good to know

No published rates. The operator has no website (laccostebelle.com and aacn.ca — the address the outfitter used to advertise — both return NXDOMAIN on the apex and www); its web presence is its Facebook page, 'Pourvoirie du Lac Costebelle', which publishes no rate sheet. Two chalets sleeping two to six people, on the European plan (you cook for yourself), on the shore of Lac Costebelle. Fishing for Arctic char and brook trout (native populations only). Structure and rates on request from the outfitter.
