About

Pourvoirie Étamamiou is owned by the age-old Innu community of Unamen Shipu (La Romaine), on Quebec's Lower North Shore. Holder of the exclusive fishing rights over the Étamamiou River basin (5 km upstream from its mouth into the Gulf of St. Lawrence), it offers one of Quebec's finest Atlantic salmon rivers, with a success rate among the highest in eastern North America. Sea trout fishing and a demonstration of the traditional pole capture of lobster are also available. The guides, Innu members of Unamen Shipu, represent a culture present for more than 9,000 years on this stretch of the Gulf coast. Lodging is in fully equipped chalets, heated by electricity or wood (some rated four stars, others three), each sleeping three in single beds and with bathrooms. The gourmet meals draw on Innu traditions (fire cooking, bannock bread, outdoor dining). The outfitter welcomes parties of up to six anglers. Access is by air only: floatplane from Havre-Saint-Pierre or helicopter from Chevery.
