About

Deep in Quebec's Far North, Pourvoirie du Lac Justone runs two remote fishing camps on tributaries of the Caniapiscau River: Facolli Falls, the main camp, and Hasté Lake. You fish for brook trout (speckled trout), which can reach 7 pounds, lake trout known for their impressive size — up to 30 pounds — northern pike, with catches often over 10 pounds, and landlocked salmon, a hard-fighting freshwater salmon that tops 10 pounds. Both sites operate from mid-June to early September and are reached only by floatplane, departing from Fermont or Labrador City. The cabins are fully equipped: full kitchen, lighting, running and hot water, shower, toilet, wood stove, barbecue and generator, with large aluminum boats and well-maintained outboards, buoyancy vests and gas on site. Facolli Falls is run on the American plan, with an on-site guide/camp keeper and cook and satellite WiFi at the main camp; Hasté Lake is a self-guided, European-plan formula for independent anglers. In the rapids, fly fishing only and catch-and-release is the rule, apart from a few fish to enjoy on site. In winter, the Facolli Falls site also welcomes snowmobile parties.

Access : Fly-in

Camps reachable only by floatplane. Trips depart from the town of Fermont in Northern Quebec, connected to the road network by Highway 389; return flights to the camp leave from Fermont or Labrador City. The town is also served by Wabush commercial airport (YWK), 33 km (20 miles) from Fermont; a flexible air fare is recommended, as weather can delay the return flight. The transfer from Wabush airport to the floatplane base and back is included in the packages but must be booked in advance. Depending on party size and aircraft type, one or two flights may be needed; weight limits apply and it is best to limit the number of boxes, coolers and rod cases. For the Hasté Lake site, bring waders: the floatplane lands on the beach a few metres from the camp. The main camp is Facolli Falls, at coordinates 53.269735, -68.304623. Return by road toward Baie-Comeau via Highway 389 is possible.
