Camp de la Haute Madeleine

Camp de la Haute-Madeleine is an upscale Atlantic-salmon fishing destination, tucked along the shore of Lac au Diable in the wild Gaspésie backcountry, near Manche d'Épée. The camp specializes in salmon fishing on the Madeleine River, one of Quebec's most important salmon rivers (74 pools across 5 sectors, 80% of them fished by wading); the season runs from July 1 to September 30. Lac au Diable and the river also offer native brook (speckled) trout fishing, on the fly, from a boat or wading. Three internationally appointed log cabins (Le Huard, L'Épervier, Le Pêcheur), facing the lake, sleep 4 to 6: solar or propane lighting, equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom with hot water and shower, slow-combustion stove and BBQ. The main camp houses the dining room. Beyond fishing, the territory lends itself to wildlife watching, hiking and mountain biking, and also suits corporate retreats. Lodging is offered on the American plan (3 meals per day, with or without a guide) or the European plan.
