Delay River Outfitters offers an extraordinary fishing experience in the heart of Nunavik, in Quebec's Far North. The Delay River is one of the most productive salmon rivers in Quebec: an average of about 2 salmon per day, from 5 to 12 pounds, with 18-pound-plus catches not uncommon. It is one of the rare rivers where you can fish for four of Quebec's major species — Atlantic salmon, speckled (brook) trout, lake trout and northern pike — in one place, travelling the river in a freighter canoe with experienced guides or wading right in. Salmon fishing is done on the fly, and with light tackle until mid-August (limit of 2 salmon per day, maximum 4 per stay, catch-and-release encouraged). Lodging is in luxurious three-bedroom cottages with two full baths, electricity, heating and a woodstove, on the American plan (all meals served in the dining hall). The territory is also presented as a caribou-hunting area in Nunavik. Access is by seaplane (Otter- or Beaver-type) from the airbase at the Caniapiscau Reservoir. The Lachapelle family — Roger and his sons Denis and Martin — has run the outfitter since acquiring the lodge in 1998.

The trip begins in Montréal: a flight to the outfitter's airbase at the Caniapiscau Reservoir, then a seaplane transfer (Otter- or Beaver-type) to the camp. The Caniapiscau base is also reachable by road, by car, via the Trans-Taïga Road (the 'American plan – truck drive up' option).
