About

Pourvoirie Mitchinamecus spreads 182.5 km² of Hautes-Laurentides forest around some fifty lakes and the Mitchinamecus River, whose Indigenous name means "big trout" and which runs more than 35 km across the territory. Ten log cottages, each set on its own lakeshore, share ten exclusive hunting zones of more than 15 km² apiece: moose hunting runs over three weeks for parties of at least four hunters, black-bear hunting takes place in June over daily-baited sites, and small-game hunting — ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, hare — is open across the whole territory, on foot, by ATV or by truck. On the fishing side, brook trout fill nearly forty of the fifty-two lakes, lake trout and a few splake hold the depths of Grand Lac Clark, walleye are taken in more than ten lakes and in the river, and northern pike rule lacs Omer and Louise; the busiest lakes are restocked more than once a season. The river also offers many prepared wading spots, fly or light-tackle, where brook trout and walleye come out of the same pool, plus more than 35 km of canoe and kayak descent. In winter, four cottages stay open: snowmobiling off the Trans-Québec trail, ice fishing on five trout lakes, four walleye lakes and two pike lakes, and more than 40 km of snowshoe and cross-country ski trails. The territory has been worked since the 1930s, was constituted as an outfitter in the 1970s under the name "Pourvoirie des Cent lacs Nord", and was renamed in 2005 in tribute to the river.

Access : By road

Road access. The welcome post sits at km 112 of the chemin de Parent, a gravel road linking Parent to the village of Mont-Saint-Michel; every access road to the zones and cottages branches off it. Published route: take Autoroute 15 North (Autoroute des Laurentides), then Route 117 North; 10 km past Lac Saguay, turn right onto Route 311 North and drive 16 km; turn left toward Lac St-Paul and Mont-Saint-Michel; at Mont-Saint-Michel, turn right and drive 3 km, then turn right again onto the dirt road; at km 82, turn left and follow the signs for Parent. Cottages are between 1.5 and about fifteen kilometres from the welcome office. Cottage access roads are dirt and gravel, drivable depending on the case by car, light truck, 4x4 truck or ATV; exclusive lakes are mostly reached by light truck, 4x4 or ATV, and some remote lakes only by water with a short or medium portage. The prepared wading spots along the river are reached on foot, less than 5 minutes from the chemin de Parent. In winter, snowmobile access is via the Trans-Québec TQ33 trail, linked to the outfitter by a 7 km groomed trail; the cottages open in winter are within 3.5 km of the welcome office (km 112.5). The outfitter has its own helipad at km 119 of the chemin de Parent (Air Medic member).
