Pourvoirie Mitchinamécus

About
In the heart of the Upper Laurentians and crossed for more than 35 km by the famous Mitchinamecus River, Pourvoirie Mitchinamecus covers a 182.5 km² territory dotted with about fifty lakes. Fishing puts brook trout front and centre (found in around forty of the 52 lakes and in the river), with lake trout and splake in Grand Lac Clark, pike in lakes Omer and Louise, and walleye in more than ten lakes and in the river, where wade fishing is popular. Moose hunting takes place on exclusive zones of more than 15 km² attached to each cabin, over a three-week season; the black bear hunt, in June over baited sites, posts a success rate near 100% and combines with fishing. Small-game hunting (ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, hare) runs across the whole territory late in the season. Lodging is in ten round-log lakeside cabins (3 to 10 people), propane-heated and solar-powered, set between 1.5 and about fifteen kilometres from the welcome office. In winter the outfitter opens for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing. Founded in the 1930s as the Iredale Club and later run as Pourvoirie des Cent Lacs Nord, it has carried its current name since 2005.
