About

La Réserve Beauchêne is a magnificent 205.7 km² (over 50,000 acres) exclusive territory in the high hills of western Quebec, overlooking the Ottawa River valley with Ontario across the water. It holds about forty fish-rich lakes and seven game-fish species — one of the widest varieties of any single area in Quebec: smallmouth bass, brook (speckled) trout, lake trout, walleye, northern pike, whitefish and splake (a brook-lake trout cross). Fishing happens on the big lake and on many back lakes you can reserve for the day, under a modified catch-and-release program. On the hunting side: moose (an opening 'VIP' hunt with exclusive territory at the rut peak, 4 guests/week, plus Outpost and main-lodge packages), spring black bear over baited sites, and small game (ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, snowshoe hare). Lodging your way: the main lodge (White House), the Fox/Otter cabins, the luxury granite-fireplace 'Bird' chalets on full board (American Plan, meals and maid service), or three self-catering Outpost camps (European Plan — Birch Lake, Foley Bay Island, Beauchêne Beach) and a rustic campground (Bear Bay). The drive-to territory also lends itself to canoeing and kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming and birding (one of the region's largest heronries on Ile des Oiseaux). Fishing and hunting are reserved for guests, with moose and bear harvests kept below provincial limits.

Access : By road

Drive-to territory in the high hills of western Quebec near Témiscaming, facing Ontario across the Ottawa River valley. From the campground, a water ferry connects Bear Bay Campground to the main lodge. Round-trip road transport in a lodge vehicle from the lodge to some back-country camps (e.g. Birch Lake) is available for an extra fee (+$80). Back lakes are reached by regular automobile (lakes marked *), otherwise by 4×4, boat or marked trails.
